We are raising funds for the Anorectal Team at The Children's Hospital at Westmead!
Anorectal malformations affect 1 in 5000 babies and so many of these children have colostomy bags for life or multiple other issues on top of this. We are so lucky that Olivia's condition can be fixed so she can hopefully live a relatively normal life, we know of many children that aren't so lucky.
This photo shows what equipment Olivia requires in the evening for bath-time, this process can sometimes take up to an hour. Sometimes she requires this multiple times a day if things don't go to plan (which with a busy one year old happens nearly every day). This incredible little girl gets poked and prodded multiple times a day yet you would never know, she is still so happy and brave. She truly is the most amazing, well behaved and beautiful baby we have ever met (although we are a bit biased).
Soon Olivia will have her third and final surgery and although her journey isn't over yet we will say goodbye to her colostomy bag and most of this equipment. In order to give back to the people who have saved her life (she was very sick when she first got diagnosed) and made it so she can live an amazing happy and healthy life we would like to raise some money.
The money will be given to Olivia's nurse consultant at Westmead Children's hospital and she will use it for equipment, resources and education for other families with similar conditions to Olivia.
The work the anorectal team, nurse consultant and surgeons do is amazing and they do it with so little support and funds. I have worked along side these people for years but in a completely different department and never truly appreciated the care they provide to patients and families with the small amount of resources available to them.
Any money you could spare to donate to this great cause would be greatly appreciated. Tax receipts are of course available, even getting the company you work for involved to make a donation could really make a difference.
